LinkGiving makes its mark in local communities

Published on September 07 2009

More than 200 Link employees rolled up their sleeves yesterday (27 August) to help out in local communities across central Scotland as part of the first LinkGiving initiative. The enthusiastic teams got to work on a diverse range of projects, including:

  • Holding a barbeque for local unpaid carers in Grangemouth
  • Redecorating two hostels for the homeless in Edinburgh
  • Gardening and tidying at a Riding for the Disabled Centre in Balerno
  • Cleaning up of a stretch of the Forth-Clyde Canal
  • Developing a community meeting space in Paisley
  • Helping out at a Disability Sports Scotland football tournament in Glasgow
  • Providing pampering treatments for sheltered housing tenants in Falkirk, Denny and Grangemouth
  • Clearing Rhododendrons at Falkland Estate in Fife for the benefit of local wildlife
  • Gardening and tidying at schools in Edinburgh and Musselburgh
  • Helping build a sensory garden for Capability Scotland’s Sycamore Service

Link’s sheltered housing team also raised more than £6000 for Macmillan Nurses by holding LinkGiving open days on 13 August. Craig Sanderson, Chief Executive of Link Group said; “We work closely with local communities in the day-to-day delivery of our services. The aim of LinkGiving was to show how committed we are to these local communities by giving up a day of work to help out with additional projects and activities that helped improve the local environment or brought smiles to the faces of local residents. “The enthusiasm shown by the LinkGiving teams was fantastic and I am proud to say that the day was a great success.”
