A street party was held on Saturday 28 August along the newly redeveloped Cross Arthurlie Street, Barrhead.
Link was one of the many sponsors of the event, which had been organised by East Renfrewshire Council as a thank you to the local businesses and residents for their patience during the redevelopment works - part of an £800,000 renovation by East Renfrewshire Council with support from the Scottish Government Town Centre Regeneration Fund.
Residents of Barrhead enjoyed a sunny afternoon of entertainment which included fairground rides, stalls, a farmers market and a mobile football pitch. It was also an opportunity to welcome and encourage new shoppers to use the newly renovated shopping street.
Councillor Tony Buchanan, Convenor of Economic Development and Regeneration said “The £800,000 spent improving Cross Arthurlie Street is money well spent. The aim was to breathe new life into one of the main shopping streets in the town and to attract more shoppers and visitors. Our family fun day was a chance for the town, residents and traders to enjoy all that Cross Arthurlie Street and a better Barrhead has to offer.”
The event also coincided with the release of Link’s first phase of quality affordable housing at neighbouring John Street. Link and East Renfrewshire Council have developed a formal agreement which will see the new homes being managed on behalf of Link by the Council.
Craig Sanderson, Chief Executive of Link Group, said “I was pleased to see such enthusiasm for the event from local people and to meet several community–based enterprises, for example ReUseIt. The new homes Link has provided add to the regeneration and sustainability of Barrhead town centre.”
Gillian McNamara, Principal Regeneration Officer from East Renfrewshire Council said “The day was a huge success with local businesses and shops doing very well out of the family fun day. Cross Arthurlie Street has been transformed by the streetscape works paid for by Town Centre Regeneration Fund, as well the high quality development by Link”
